BRIAN SINCLAIR, FRAIC AIA(Intl)
Brian R. Sinclair holds the unique position of Presidential Advisor on Design + Sustainability at the University of Calgary, Canada. He is Professor of Architecture + Environmental Design, and former Dean, in Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS). Prior to assuming the deanship he was Chair of the nationally-ranked Architecture school at Ball State University in the USA. Brian holds postgraduate degrees in both architecture and psychology. His expertise, experience and engagement spans the breadth from science to art. He is an educator + practitioner, an academic + administrator. Professional memberships include the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Fellowship in the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). Scholarship areas include professional practice, design methods, environmental psychology, international development, informal settlement, sustainability, and the collision of science & spirit.

Birol Fisekci
Birol Fisekci co-founded Bordeaux Developments, a land and housing company that has an underlying spirit of ambition - a profound desire to step aside and above the crowd in its products, service and value. Bordeaux is currently planning a community called Harmony that will encompass approximately 1750 acres and will be a holistically planned mixed-use community designed on the basis of the triple bottom line. Prior to co-founding Bordeaux Developments Corporation, Birol worked 10 years internationally and was involved in land development and homebuilding. Birol has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary. He was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1969.

 

VIVIAN MANASC
Vivian Manasc is a Senior Principal of Manasc Isaac Architects, one of Edmonton's largest architectural practices. Vivian received her Architectural Degree from McGill University and her MBA from the University of Alberta.

She is a Fellow and Immediate Past President of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Vice-Chair, Canada Green Building Council and Chair of the Continuing Education Committee, Past Chair, Board of Economic Development Edmonton, founding member of the Sustainable Buildings Symposium, Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Calgary, and is active in a number of community organizations. She has worked extensively in the area of designing outstanding sustainable buildings for public and corporate sector clients focusing on the facilitation of the sustainable design process.

Manasc Isaac Architects is a leader in cold-climate sustainable design in Western Canada and has been recognized with a number of significant architectural awards including the Governor General's Award in Architecture.

Vivian is also co-author of the book, "Agora Borealis - engaging in sustainable architecture".

 

JIM SAWERS, B.SC., P.ENG., LEED® ACCREDITED PROFESSIONAL
Jim Sawers received his B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland and worked exclusively in the consulting engineering field until he joined the University of Calgary in 2006 as Director of Campus Engineering.

Jim was previously a principal and Calgary office manager for Keen Engineering and prior to that Vice President of Building Engineering for a major Western Canadian consulting engineering firm.

Jim is a LEED® Accredited Professional; has been the recipient of an international ASHRAE Energy Award and several Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Awards; has published technical papers on building engineering issues, has contributed to several provincial and national Canadian standards, and has made many presentations on energy use and green building design.

Jim introduced “in-floor” radiant slab cooling to Canada through his work on the University of Calgary Information and Communications Technology Building and helped pioneer under-floor air systems in Calgary.

Through his design work Jim has contributed to LEED® Silver, Gold and Platinum buildings.

Tom Sutherland
BES, M.Arch., RSW, MAAA, MOAA, MRAIC, LEED® AP
Partner, Cohos Evamy Integratedesign Tom Sutherland is the Vice-Chair and strategic development partner for Cohos Evamy Integratedesign, a unique collaboration of over 300 architects, engineers, interior designers, planners, programmers, researchers, and graphic artists.

Under Tom’s direction, Cohos Evamy is incorporating Green Design principles into all of its projects through its unique integrated design approach. Cohos Evamy is well on its way to achieving it goal of better integrated, better designed, and better performing buildings in the service of its clients, their communities, and environment. Tom’s role as a strategic leader takes him across Canada, working from our studios in Toronto, Calgary, and Edmonton and presenting at a variety of conferences including RAIC, Sustainable Building Symposium, Construction Specifications Canada, and the Project Management Institute.

Tom Sutherland has more than 20 years of professional experience with a particular focus on complex institutional projects, including healthcare and post-secondary.
